how do i learn how to instal tile??. want to install tile for a living!!!!?

i want to get into laying tile.. i want to install tile for a living.. what is the best way to learn and become a tile installer?. is there a course i can do?… is there any certifications or anything as far as that goes?… i want to get into tile, i find it interesting and i would love to do this work! thank you

First, I recommend always studying up and taking a builder’s license course to get licensed in your state. This is a good idea for several reasons: It gives you the knowledge and credibility needed for public residential contracting, as well as giving you legal recourse in case a client doesn’t want to pay you. Generally speaking, the Internet courses will get you licensed, but not provide you the knowledge that only time and experience working under a master contractor will.
There are several good books, available at Home Depot and other big stores, that cover tile. It’s not rocket science but there are a few special circumstances that you’ll want to prepare for. Also, the field changes quickly with new substrates and materials, so you’ll want to keep current. Best of luck, and remember to take these projects slowly for best results.

Please help! having trouble removing grout sealer that dried on the surface of the glaze tiles. Suggestions?

Used a grout sealer and applicator that caused it to drip down over the tiles when applying. Of course did not wipe it off right away and it dried. Now the surface of the tiles are all streaked. I don’t know what to use. Any thoughts on how to removed the streaks?

Scrap it with a raiser blade.It will not scrape the tile

Why would you need a course in laying tile. it’s pretty simple and straight forward. Find a library and read a book on it. I don’t have a clue what home centers over there sell, but here in the states, home centers sell videos on tiling.

How do I get marker off aquadoodle tiles?

We got my son an aquadoodle for Christmas that is a bunch of colored foam tiles that fit together. Of course he got the markers mixed up with his aquadoodle pen and colored on it. Any ideas how to get the marker off? Magic eraser did not work….for once!

Try baby wipes, or rubbing alcohol. My niece, when she was about 2-3 years-old got a hold of a Sharpie (Permanent marker) and drew all over her stomach, legs and arms and baby wipes took it off her skin

What is the difference between solvent based and solvent free tile adhesives?

Everywhere I look on the internet, its all solvent free adhesives and I cannot find any information about solvent based adhesives. Reason I’m looking is due to a tiling question on this home learning course I’m doing.

In many states anything with solvents violates the clean air act and is illegal to sell.

On a realistic basis the ones with solvent can kill you if you breathe them in a poorly-ventilated area.

Is it ever safe to live in a home after someone cooked meth inside?

I have a friend, who’s daughter is getting ready to move into a house where there once was a methlab. Of course, ceiling tiles, wall paneling and flooring have all been replaced, and everything has been cleaned top to bottom. I just wanted to ask some Narcotics officers if they think this house is safe? They have a new baby. They also got the house for a very discounted price.

The state has strict regulations on the remedial procedures for meth labs.

That said, you’re banking on a private contractor doing a thorough job. We are still informed when responding to an address which was a former meth-lab from 10 plus years ago. Things like to limit our exposure inside the property and keep our gloves on…

I wouldn’t buy property that was formerly a meth lab regardless of how discounted. (There’s a reason why its discounted)

Your best bet for a full answer would be to talk to the hazmat guys at your fire department.

How to remove plaster from cement board?

My bathroom has a section where there is cement board. Over the cement board is a layer of plaster. Tiles were glued to the plaster. However, the plaster came off of most of the cement board over time. Of course, the tiles have fallen off too. So now I have bare cement board partially covered by plaster.

I’d like to remove the remaining plaster from the cement board and then retile directly over the cement board.

How to best remove the remaining plaster? Is chipping away at it the only method?

Use a four inch razor scraper to scrape off the worst of it then use a wet sponge and the rest should wash off easily.Also if you need to you can wet the plaster to help make it easier to scrape.

how do i remove tile grout after it has cured?

the other day i was using grout between the kitchen table that i had just tiled. During the course of grouting i was called away and the grout cured without me finishing the job. how do i get rid of the grout so i can start the grout process over again?

Hardware stores sell a cheap tool designed for grout removal. Just be careful to keep the tool on the grout as it may scratch on the tile.

Hiya, I’m looking for suggestions to clean the grout in my tiles – of course, it has to be easy, cheap, environmentally friendly!!!

I like to use the Clorox Bleach pen. It would probably be cheaper to buy the "splashless" bleach and use an old toothbrush. They’ll be like new in no time!
